You will want a fairly sturdy tripod with a 3/8″ mounting screw. It rather depends on what camera/lens/head you are putting on top. This design really doesn’t work well with heavier cameras or when things are out-of-balance.

Thanks for the kind words and the book reference. I had not heard of it (although I’ve seen plenty of similar DIY projects on a variety of forums).

Since you are now playing with video, have you seen the book:

“Killer Camera Rigs that you can Build”, by Dan Selakovich. It may help with some other rigs you intend to operate.
