Sun Pillar

A couple of weeks ago, driving home from a filming assignment, the setting sun created a “pillar” of light into the clouds.   Of course there was no good place to pull over so I kept on driving hoping this rare atmospheric would stick around for a few minutes.   When I finally got to a spot where I could set up a shot the pillar was much less pronounced but still there.

Technical:

Canon 5D Mark 2, 24-70mm f/2.8L at 50mm, ISO 400, 1/200 at f/7.1 – handheld.
Lightroom 3: WB 5000K, exposure -.8, recovery 33, fill 42, black 17, clarity +25, vibrance +23 (kicks up the blue in the sky)

Where does the time go?

Canon 7D, 500mm f/4, 24-70mm f/2.8, handheld in kayak (calm water).

Minimal Lightroom processing.   The tricky part is picking the white balance…   A topic for another day I guess.
